Night guard

I really like photographing LA at night. Like any big city, it has it's share of obscure nooks and cul-de-sacs, places where the streetlights don't penetrate, but seldom a view of the sky. In the case of rooftops, not only is the lighting spare, but you can really see the sky, sometimes from horizon to horizon.

Tonight the sky was especially fine.

Down by the River

This is Alex. He lives with his companion Shauna in a lean-to that they made out of cast-off lumber, pieces of artificial grass and cardboard, built on a ledge below a bridge that crosses a tributary of the Los Angeles River.

A couple of days ago he found some golf balls and a club. And while you certainly couldn't call his swing classic, he's definitely got the enthusiasm.

J. Paul Getty Center

Took in the Getty last week and thought I'd play architectural photographer for a minute or two, so I snapped a few pictures.
Other than applying lens correction in Adobe Camera Raw 7.0 to reduce distortion (and a tiny amount of chromatic aberration) these images are printed straight, using the camera's setting of neutral calibration and Adobe RGB (1998).
